Home (literally)

Using guest comments, I try to identify several ways each year that I can make your stay more enjoyable, easier, or just better in some way.

Laundry Detergent-
In an effort to help with water quality and be more economical, I make my own laundry detergent. I find it cleans well and does not produce a lot of suds. The ingredients are water, Fels-Naptha laundry bar, Washing Soda, and Borax. It should not cause any allergiy problems.

If you find you like the detergent, I'd be happy to share the recipe. It ends up costing just pennies a load, plus your time to make it. But, one batch, which may take 2-3 hours, produces 10-12 gallons of detergent. You use a half-cup per load in the front-loader.

For folks in 129B, you will be provided a choice between using the homemade detergent or using an off-brand of regular detergent that I provide. (Of course, it's always OK for you to bring your own.) The homemade detergent is used at 5/8 to 3/4 cup per load.

In 129A, with the High Efficiency front-loading washer/dryer, I will only provide the Homemade laundry detergent. If you prefer not to use my detergent, please be sure you purchase and bring High Efficiency Laundry Detergent (It's marked HE on the container.) Using regular detergent in the HE washer will cause overflow and damage the machine.

General Improvements-

This year-

- I had the entire interior of both units painted. They look great!

- I replaced all the smoke detectors in the entire house.

- I purchased 4 new bicycles.

- I purchased several new pfd's.

- I replaced two mattresses in 129-B.

I replaced the set of bunks in 129A with a queen-sized futon.

- I replaced the full-sized futon in 129B with a queen-sized futon.

- I had all units inspected for pests, incluing bedbugs and will be adding bedbug detectors and bedbug-proof mattress covers before spring. I have never had bedbugs in the house, but have read articles that they are becoming mpore prevelant everywhere.

- I replaced all the locks on all the doors, adding combination keypads on which I can change the combinations, at will.

- I have replaced all the TV's in both units with new, HD flatscreen TVs.

Last year and the year before:

- The washer/dryer in 129A have been replaced with HE front-loading machines. This will make doing the laundry faster and easier-- and it's more GREEN! If you choose to purchase your own laundry detergent, please use ONLY HE laundry detergent. Regular detergent will casue overflow in the washer.

- Also, in 129A, I replaced the dishwasher and replaced the bedroom blinds with "room darkening" blinds (which have been requested by guests in the past).

- In 129B, I replaced the small bar sink in the kitchenette with a full-sized kitchen sink.

- The carpet was replaced in both units.

- I added curtains to the front doors on both units. I really, really don't understand why anyone would want the windows in the doors covered, since they're on second floor. But, I guess I'm just used to living back in the woods! Both entry doors now have curtains!

- I added 2 additonal tandem sit-in kayaks.

- I added 4 new bicycles.

Please leave your comments in the guest books, or email your comments to me. I really do try to listen!!
